How to program computer games? The grim reality
How many of you started programming or even studying Computer Sciences because they had THE ONE IDEA? The idea of the next World of Warcraft or the next Ultra Realtime Massive Battle Strategy Online Game? Stefan and Dennis were two of them - but they sticked to their passion. Today, they are still working on an ambitious gaming project with a team of five people. The project exists for almost 14 years, already. Stefan and Dennis will talk about their lessons learned working on a passion project for such a long time, what the challenges in computer game development are, how they differ from developing a modern REST-based web application and how you can keep up motivation for such an ambitious project while probably never making any real money. Besides all the talk about game development, they will dive into the technical parts as well: the project is written in .NET using Monogame, uses Microsoft Playfab and multiple Azure services as well as a .NET integration into the Steam gaming platform using an automated Azure DevOps pipeline.
